Program Improvement and Endowment

Families in the Ohio Valley community value the parks of Wheeling for the casual and organized activities and programs offered year round. The parks offer something for everyone from pre-school programs at the zoo to dances for seniors at Wilson Lodge. The activities also span the seasons. While the warm weather months provide a variety of options from something as simple as a visit to the swimming pool to summer day camp to a game of tennis or golf, the cooler months also provide plenty of opportunity for recreation and education with ice skating, skiing and indoor zoo programs.

The parks system is known for its commitment to quality but many of these programs and activities would benefit from endowment funds to guarantee improvements, upgrades and new offerings for future generations. In addition, the parks are committed to providing access to the youth of the community who may not be able to afford the fees associated with some activities. The most well-known example of this commitment is the Access to the Parks program. However, plans for the future include programs that will provide access to skiing, golf and more to the deserving youth of the community.

Examples of park programs that will benefit from gifts and endowment funds for improvements and upgrades include the following:

  • Access to the Parks

  • Ski

  • Junior Golf

  • Junior Tennis

  • Hockey

  • Soccer

  • Zoo Education

  • Now in Progress
