A Campaign for the Future of Our Parks

In the life of every organization such as the Wheeling Park Commission, there is a special moment in history when an organization quits growing or makes a move, when it languishes in self-satisfaction or responds with energy and relevance to the needs of today and the future. Sometimes this moment comes only once in the lifetime of an organization. For many, this moment comes and goes, and no one ever knew it passed. For some, it is a time when the organization captures the impetus of the moment and responds with vigor to realize its full potential. For Wheeling's parks, the time has come.

Because the parks depend so little on public tax appropriations, they must rely on revenue-producing facilities and the generosity of many friends and supporters. Oglebay and Wheeling Park have been fortunate in having many extremely generous individuals and supportive philanthropic foundations contribute to their growth and development over the past three-quarters of a century, first through the Parks System Trust Fund, and now through the Oglebay Foundation.

The time has come to take this base of support to the next level - to address all the needs of the parks so future generations will enjoy the beauty and recreational and cultural activities we enjoy today.

The Oglebay Foundation has set a goal of $35 million dollars to be raised over a five-year period. This will help fund the ongoing needs of our parks today, and also give the Wheeling Park Commission funds to add or improve programs and facilities as needed. This Campaign for the Future of Our Parks will address the following initiatives:

1.	Facility Improvement and Endowment	$14,000,000
2.	Park Development	$16,000,000
3.	Staff Training and Improvement	$1,000,000
4.	Park Opportunities (Annual Fund)	$1,000,000
5.	Program Improvement and Endowment	$3,000,000
	Total:	$35,000,000

Keeping Wheeling Park, Oglebay and Good Zoo at Oglebay unique, special and accessible to all well into the next century is the overall goal of The Oglebay Foundation's Comprehensive Campaign. There is an opportunity for everyone who loves the parks to be a part of their success today - and far into the future.
